Thoughts on the Fire-Element Zodiac Signs
In earlier writings I explained that the twelve zodiac signs are grouped under the four great elements — Earth, Water, Fire, and Air. All human beings on Earth fall under one of these twelve signs. These twelve signs are distributed among the four elements as follows:
- Earth Element: Taurus, Capricorn, Virgo
- Water Element: Pisces, Scorpio, Cancer
- Fire Element: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius
- Air Element: Gemini, Libra, Aquarius
Today we consider the Fire-element signs.
In the Treta Yuga, the Fire element was dominant. The natural qualities (*nija-guna shīla*) of this element are strongly present in Aries (Mesha), Leo (Simha), and Sagittarius (Dhanu).
People of these three signs should perform their spiritual practice facing South. All important activities in life should ideally begin from the southern direction. For them, South is the direction of prosperity and success.
Study, learning, meditation, and all attempts that bring benefit should be initiated from the South. The essential power of the Fire element becomes accessible from this direction.
According to the relationship between the cosmos and the Fire element, the energy received from the South during worship is especially effective and fruitful for people of Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius.
They receive best results during the waning fortnight (Krishna Paksha / Vadya Paksha) of every lunar month. The waxing fortnight (Shukla Paksha) is comparatively less beneficial. Thus, important tasks should preferably be done during the waning phase.
Worship should continue regularly throughout all twelve months.

Day’s Four Divisions
There are four watches (*prahars*) during the day:
- Sunrise to noon – first prahar
- Noon to sunset – second prahar
- Sunset to midnight – third prahar
- Midnight to sunrise – fourth prahar
All five cosmic elements continuously influence one another. The movement of the Sun, planets, and stars affects everyone.
For Fire-element signs, spiritual practice performed during the second and third prahar — between 1 PM and 5 PM brings especially powerful results. Plans and important work begun during these hours tend to succeed.
Your birth-star mantra (Nakshatra Mantra) should also be chanted daily during this period.

Surya Nadi and Chandra Nadi
Humans breathe through two nostrils:
- Breath through the left nostril is the Chandra Nadi (moon channel).
- Breath through the right nostril is the Surya Nadi (sun channel).
The body naturally alternates between the two. Breath, planets, the body, and the cosmos are all interconnected.
For Aries, Leo, Sagittarius individuals, actions taken while the Surya Nadi is active bring favourable outcomes. During this time, their body, mind, and planetary influences become aligned.
Therefore, one should:
- - meditate,
- - study,
- - plan, and
- - perform all important tasks
when the Surya Nadi is active.
If it is not active, one may activate it by closing the left nostril and breathing through the right.
The primary desires (*vāsanā*) of these three signs manifest through form (sight) and touch. To reduce the intensity of karmic cycles of birth and death, these desires must be controlled.
They must remain vigilant about conquering attachment (moha).
Daily worship is recommended as follows:
- ॐ श्री दत्तात्रेयाय नमः
- ॐ श्रीं क्लीं रामरामाय नमः
Chant each mantra 108 times, between 1 PM and 5 PM, facing South.
Pilgrimage to Badrinath and Sajjangad at least once in life brings benefit. Though all sacred places have importance, specific places give specific benefits according to one’s zodiac sign. Such visits bring mental stillness, peace, and enthusiasm.
Lord Sri Ramachandra was a Yugapurusha, and His work and nature were rooted in the Water element. But the influence of a Yugapurusha continues for ages. His principles should be followed.
People of Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius belong to the Kshatriya nature among the four varnas. They are inclined towards tamas by default, yet the pure quality of the Fire element runs deep in them.
Their behaviour is strongly shaped by the inherent characteristics of Fire — hence they think primarily in terms of principle, duty, and conduct (śīla).
Fire is connected with practical action. These people are naturally skilled in worldly dealings and business. They should guard against greed and hatred.

Individual Considerations for Each Fire Sign
Aries (Mesha)
Ruling planet: Mars (Mangal) Mars resides under the Khair tree. The essential Fire-element quality of Aries is present within this tree.
Worship under a Khair tree at any time is beneficial, but especially:
- Time: 3 AM to 5 AM - Direction: Facing East
Chant these mantras daily (at least 108 times):
- ॐ हं श्रीं मंगलाय नमः
- ॐ अंगारकाय विद्महे | भूमिपुत्राय धीमहि | तन्नो भौमः प्रचोदयात्॥
- ॐ भूमिपुत्रो महातेजाः… ॐ क्रां क्रिं क्रौं सः भौमाय नमः॥
—
Leo (Simha)
Ruling planet: Sun (Surya) The Sun resides under the Rui (Calotropis) tree. Burning cinnamon or musk beneath this tree is recommended.
- Direction: Facing East - Time: 12 PM to 3 PM
Chant daily:
—
Sagittarius (Dhanu)
Ruling planet: Jupiter (Guru) Jupiter resides under the Audumbar tree. Burn camphor, musk, or incense beneath this tree.
- Direction: Facing West - Time: 4 AM to 6 AM
Chant daily:
