Meeting with the 375-Year-Old Mouni Baba

After beginning his spiritual work, Narendra Nath Maharaj naturally met many saints and revered figures. His journey initially started with the blessings of sages in the Himalayas. During his visit to the Himalayas, he expected to meet various saints and hoped to gain special knowledge from these encounters. Indeed, many sages met him spontaneously, and some deliberately came to receive his darshan, saying, *“We have been waiting to see you for many days; today we are blessed with your darshan.”*

Vyankatnath Maharaj had already instructed Narendra Nath Maharaj that he need not travel seeking saints; those whom he was destined to meet would come to him. The work entrusted to Narendra Nath was proceeding perfectly according to the plan of his Guru. These meetings seemed preordained, and it became evident that the Nath Panth is truly a Guru-centered tradition.

On learning that a sage named Mouni Baba resided near Narayangav, Nashik, and was 375 years old, Narendra Nath Maharaj visited him. This ascetic lived in a closed room, constantly absorbed in spiritual practice, and only gave darshan to those he wished to meet. Recognizing this, Narendra Nath Maharaj sent a message expressing his desire for a meeting, which Mouni Baba promptly accepted.

Upon meeting, Mouni Baba spontaneously offered respect and began conversing with Narendra Nath Maharaj. Although his speech was generally unintelligible to others, he communicated clearly with Narendra Nath. After reviewing the progress of Narendra Nath’s work, Mouni Baba expressed profound satisfaction, blessed him for the continuation of his work, and gave him an ancient symbolic object said to last 400 years. Additionally, he gifted ₹5,000 for his spiritual work. Their conversation often took place silently through meaningful glances, which fascinated onlookers.

During the meeting, Mouni Baba insisted that Narendra Nath drink tea prepared according to his custom, which was believed to maintain his health. Remarkably, he appeared unchanged over a century, leading to the belief that he was indeed 375 years old. Mouni Baba shared stories from 400 years ago, demonstrating a living link to the past. He also expressed appreciation for Narendra Nath’s ongoing spiritual efforts and ensured that he would face no obstacles or shortages in his work after the meeting.

Inspired by these blessings, Narendra Nath authored several books simplifying complex spiritual concepts for contemporary and future generations. Internationally acclaimed scholar Dr. Vijay Bhatkar, under the guidance of Yogeshwaranand, recognized one such book as a reference text for Nath Panth literature. Narendra Nath Maharaj’s writings and work have also been honored by prominent spiritual institutions, including the Shankaracharya Peeths of Karveer, Sringeri, Kanchi Kamakoti, and Hampi.

Books such as *Praktanacha Ki Purvasanchita*, *Navnath Bodhamrit*, *Yogeshwaranandanchya Chhaayet*, and *Atmonnati Sadhana* serve as valuable guidance for the present and future generations. Thus, through these sacred meetings with saints and sages, knowledge of the Nath Panth continues to reach society, made possible only through the blessings of the Gurus.
