Monday Upasana — Understanding the Relationship Between the Body, the Soul, and Shiva
The Monday Upasana teaches the deep connection between the body (deha), the soul (jiva), and Shiva (the Supreme Consciousness). Without understanding this relationship, a human being cannot progress in spiritual life.
“Human, understand the bond between your body and the Divine Soul.”
A human being is born with a physical body, but the soul inside the body is eternal. The Upasana explains:
The body is only a temporary covering.
The soul is a spark of the Divine.
The Divine has given the body as a tool for spiritual growth.
Human birth is special because only in the human body can the soul rise to liberation. No other creature has this opportunity.
The Soul Takes Birth According to Past Karma
The soul takes a body based on its past accumulated karma (purva-sanchit).
The soul enters a new body at the moment of conception.
This body becomes the medium through which the soul experiences pleasure and pain.
The goal of every birth is soul-upliftment and liberation.
If a human being fails to use the body for spiritual growth, the soul must continue the endless cycle of rebirth.
The Importance of the Human Body
The body is not ordinary. It is a sacred instrument provided by the Divine so that the soul may:
learn,
evolve,
purify itself,
and ultimately unite with Shiva.
Without the body, the soul cannot perform actions that lead to liberation.
The teaching says:
“No being except humans can transform from a limited creature into a divine being.”
This shows how valuable human birth is.
The Union of Soul and Shiva
The Monday Upasana explains that:
The soul is a fragment of Shiva.
The ultimate purpose of life is for the soul to return to its source.
This reunion is called moksha (liberation).
Understanding this connection gives life meaning and direction.
What Happens If One Ignores This Knowledge?
If a person:
does not understand the purpose of life,
abuses the body,
lives without spiritual awareness,
then his life becomes filled with:
suffering,
disappointment,
frustration,
restlessness.
Such a person will continue to be reborn again and again until he learns the purpose of existence.
