Nath Path Supreme

Introduction: This chapter explains why the Nath tradition is revered as the Guru of all spiritual paths. It also narrates a remarkable incident from the life of Madhavanath Maharaj, the Guru of Vyankatnath Maharaj, revealing how Nath Masters work beyond human limitations and even beyond the limits of other saints.

Why Madhavanath Left Chitrakoot

Madhavanath Maharaj originally held the Guru’s seat at Chitrakoot. Over time, under the influence of Kali Yuga, the temple trustees and workers became selfish. They misused donations, changed intentions, and placed personal gain above spiritual duty. Following an inner divine command, Madhavanath left Chitrakoot and shifted his spiritual centre to Devgaon Rangari (Aurangabad district).

A Visit That Changed Destiny

While at Devgaon, disciples invited him for padya-puja at their homes. During this discussion, a newly married couple came for darshan for the first time. Maharaj immediately noticed them and said: “Tomorrow at 8 a.m., I will come to your home.” They were overjoyed, but soon became anxious — they had not told him their name, address, or any details. How would he find their house?

Their Background — Blessing from Gajanan Maharaj

The couple were devotees of Gajanan Maharaj of Shegaon. The wife repeatedly conceived, yet every pregnancy ended in miscarriage within 3–4 months. Once, crying before Gajanan Maharaj, they shared their pain. He placed a coconut in her lap and blessed: “You will have a son.” This time she had reached the seventh month — the longest any pregnancy had survived. During this period they heard of the Nath Siddha, Madhavanath Maharaj, and came for darshan.

Madhavanath Arrives Without Name or Address

Exactly at 8 a.m., Madhavanath appeared at their home — without ever being told where they lived. They washed his feet, offered him a seat, and he said: “Take me to the upstairs room.” The husband protested that the room was dirty, unused for years, and locked for a long time. Maharaj insisted. They opened the dusty, cobweb-covered room. Ignoring the filth, Maharaj walked directly to a corner, held an old wooden peg, shook it firmly and declared: “Our work here is done.” He came downstairs, accepted worship, and left. They understood nothing.

A Shock the Next Morning

The next morning, the wife suffered a miscarriage. Distraught, they regretted meeting Madhavanath and feared approaching Gajanan Maharaj again. When they finally went to Shegaon and confessed, Gajanan Maharaj calmly said:

“Madhavanath Maharaj is my elder brother. Whatever he decides is final. Go to him and seek his grace.”

The Truth Revealed

Returning to Madhavanath, they narrated Gajanan Maharaj’s words. Madhavanath explained: “Gajanan Maharaj blessed you truly. But the soul in the womb would have lived only twelve days after birth. Such a blessing would not have lasted long. So I removed that soul for your own good.” He further revealed:

  • A negative force residing in their home caused repeated miscarriages.
  • Its source was in the upstairs room.
  • By shaking the wooden peg, he destroyed the root of the affliction.

He assured them: “Now everything is prepared. You will have a healthy, long-lived son.” Soon after, the wife conceived again and delivered a healthy child, and both mother and baby remained well.

Limits of Saints, Limits of Gurus

All saints have their own spiritual authority, but their scope differs. Some can:

  • bless devotees,
  • guide spiritual progress,
  • protect from difficulties.

But only certain Gurus can:

  • change destiny,
  • alter karmic design,
  • modify outcomes blessed even by other saints.

This incident demonstrates that distinction clearly.

Why the Nath Path Is Above All Paths

The Nath tradition was established by:

  • Brahma
  • Vishnu
  • Shiva
  • Lord Dattatreya
  • Guru Machchhindranath

Its foundation is therefore cosmic, not social or regional. So profound is the Nath path that: * Shiva and Vishnu themselves have incarnated within the Nath lineage, appearing as disciples of Nath Gurus. Thus the Nath Sampradaya is called: “Guru of all spiritual paths.” This does *not* mean other Gurus are inferior; it means their operating field is different. Nath Gurus function at a cosmic level, where even destinies and divine blessings may be adjusted.

Spiritual Progress of a Seeker

A seeker must:

  • follow the Guru with sincerity,
  • grow step by step,
  • evolve according to their capacity.

When a seeker reaches the limit under one Guru, Lord Dattatreya arranges the next stage — just as a student rises from one class to another. The divine Guru-system always watches over the seeker.

The Miracle Summarised

Madhavanath Maharaj:

  • found the house without address,
  • detected the karmic obstruction,
  • removed the negative force in the home,
  • corrected the destiny previously blessed,
  • ensured the birth of a healthy, long-lived son.

Such acts are not for display — they are part of the divine responsibility of Nath Gurus.

Essence

The Nath tradition stands supreme because:

  • it was designed by the cosmic trinity,
  • it operates beyond karmic and elemental limits,
  • it protects and uplifts the world,
  • it can intervene where other spiritual powers cannot.

This chapter reveals how Nath Gurus work silently with cosmic precision, guiding and protecting lives far beyond human understanding.
