The Wonder of Divine Conversation
When we speak of *conversation*, we usually mean talking to one another in some language—Marathi, Hindi, English, etc. But the conversation between God and the True Guru is of an entirely different kind. They do not speak in ordinary, spoken language. Even when they appear to speak in our words, the meaning they exchange is completely different from what we understand. Our interpretation is always from a *worldly* level, and therefore almost always wrong.
Sometimes, they communicate only through the eyes, and their entire message is conveyed silently. Ordinary people can never understand such divine communication.
Sometimes, they communicate through subtle signs or hand movements, not like the gestures we humans use. Just as shorthand contains big sentences inside tiny symbols—understood only by trained typists—the divine signs between God and Guru contain deep spiritual instructions, unknown to others.
When a disciple reaches the true spiritual state of the Guru, the Guru too communicates with him or her in the same subtle way.
Supernatural Communication Beyond Human Understanding
Yogis cannot be understood with normal logic. They have complete control over their senses. Even in a fully unconscious state, they can *talk*, *respond*, or even undergo surgery without anaesthesia.
Vyankatanath Maharaj demonstrated this many times.
Speaking to Many but Heard Only by One
Maharaj could speak to ten people at once, but only the intended person would hear the message, while others saw his lips moving but heard nothing.
One night, I (the narrator), my wife Kunda, and my gurubandhu Dr. Alshi were sitting with Maharaj. Maharaj spoke to all of us. After some time my wife got sleepy, and Dr. Alshi could *see* Maharaj talking but could not hear a word. Finally, Maharaj told Kunda gently, “Child, go and sleep. You are tired from the day.”
He sent both of them home, but kept me with him until dawn, showing me yogic demonstrations—touching the floor with his tongue and eyes, turning his feet in impossible angles, and answering everyone’s unspoken thoughts simultaneously.
Understanding the Guru’s Words Correctly
One day in Akola, a gurubandhu brought a message:
“Maharaj will come to Karanja and from there to your house.
Do not leave the house.”
My wife said, “We must obey exactly.” But I felt differently. I told her: “You stay here and welcome Maharaj. I must go to Karanja.” I went, completed some work, and when I turned from the temple—Maharaj’s car arrived at that very moment!
He said, “Child, were you late? Did you finish the work?” He had tested whether I understood his symbolic instruction correctly, and I had.
These divine conversations cannot be understood by ordinary logic.
Maharaj Spoke While Medically Unconscious
Three months later, Maharaj fell seriously ill and was admitted to a hospital in Aurangabad. He was fully unconscious, with tubes in nose and mouth.
The doctors examined him and left.
Immediately after, one of his disciples—a lady from Patur—entered the room. To her astonishment, Maharaj was sitting cross-legged, without any tubes, and speaking to her normally. After the conversation she left. The doctors and others always saw him unconscious, but she saw him alive, alert, radiant.
Her son, Dr. Ramesh Kasture, was later appointed by Maharaj as the head of the Patur Nath Panth math.
Piles Surgery Without Anaesthesia
Maharaj once suffered from severe piles. Doctors advised surgery. He agreed, but insisted:
“Do it without anaesthesia.
If I even make a sound, then you may give it.”
The doctors reluctantly agreed.
During the entire procedure, Maharaj kept talking, smiling, and showing no pain whatsoever. His control over his own body and senses was beyond imagination.
Dedication
To the Guru who broke the chains of limited intellect, who taught me the path of karma, who blended worldly wisdom with spiritual wisdom, who opened for me the doors of devotion, intelligence and deep inquiry; who taught me scriptures, Vedas and Dharma; who explained the Nath Panth, the use of sacred ash, the right use of mantra, tantra and meditation; who shaped me exactly as he wished;
—And finally said:
“When you walk, I walk.
When you speak, I speak.
What you do, I do;
what I do, you do.
You are me, and I am you.
We are one.”
And who gave me the living vision of Bhagwan Dattatreya Himself—
To that blazing, radiant, all-powerful Guru Vyankatanath Maharaj, I—Narendra Chaudhari—offer my complete surrender at His divine feet.
