The Dead Came Back to Life

*Guru Charitra* is not a story locked in the past; it is a living, ongoing stream of divine work. Many people think, “Those miracles happened long ago. How can they occur today?” But the Guru-principle — the unified power of Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh in the form of Lord Dattatreya — never stops functioning. The living Sadguru is His representative on Earth, and through him the same divine current continues to flow even in our times. As ages change, the Guru adapts His work to the needs of the era, but the power behind the work remains the same.

In chapter 32 of *Guru Charitra*, a young widow approached the Guru after her husband’s death. When the Guru placed His hand on her head, her grief settled and she gained clarity. She confessed that she saw no purpose in living as a widow and wished to end her life along with her husband. The Guru gently transformed her despair by instructing her to perform certain sacred rituals, sprinkle Rudra-teertha on the body, and trust His words. He blessed her by saying that she would have eight sons and enjoy a long married life, even though her husband lay dead before everyone. With calm confidence, He asked for the body to be brought to Him, applied holy ash, sprinkled sacred water, and looked at it with compassion. The dead man then returned to life. The couple was reunited exactly as the Guru had declared.

A similar incident took place at Devgaon Rangari in the presence of Vyankatnath Vyankatnath Maharaj. A couple from Chandrapur had come seeking help because the husband was critically ill. When the wife anxiously asked if he would survive, Vyankatnath Maharaj quietly said that his time had arrived. But when she returned the next day in tears asking if her married life was over, Vyankatnath Maharaj assured her that her married state would remain intact. Even as doctors declared that the man would die within hours, the family chose to take him to Devgaon, holding firmly to Vyankatnath Maharaj’s words.

Upon their arrival, Vyankatnath Maharaj understood their fear and the reason they had come. By morning, the man passed away and the doctors confirmed his death. The atmosphere was filled with weeping. Vyankatnath Maharaj then instructed that the body be brought inside and ordered that no one should enter. After some time, faint sounds came from the room, and the body began to move. People were shocked and unsure whether they were witnessing reality or imagination. Slowly, the man opened his eyes and regained full awareness — he was alive and completely normal.

Just as in *Guru Charitra*, the divine will worked through the Sadguru, and death itself was reversed.

This story is narrated for only one purpose: Guru Charitra is not a closed chapter. It is a living stream that continues to function through the true Sadguru in every era. What was possible in ancient times is still possible today. The form of the event may change, but the power behind it never diminishes. A sincere seeker must learn to recognize this living continuity.
