My Prayer
The Silent Prayer of One’s Own State
My condition—my very state of being—is itself my prayer. When I sit before the Divine in inner stillness, speaking nothing and asking for nothing, He understands everything. There is no need to tell Him what I want; He is all-knowing. Whatever is truly necessary for my life, He will give at the right time. By expressing endless desires, we only increase our restlessness. Our life, our actions, and our circumstances form the true language through which we pray.
Ramdas Swami’s Teaching on Prayer Without Words
Once, a disciple asked Samarth Ramdas: “There are countless ways of praying. Some sing, some cry, some beg, some sit with eyes closed, some pray in silence yet their lips move. But you remain completely still. Why do you pray without moving at all?” Ramdas Swami smiled and narrated an incident.
He once saw a starving beggar at the entrance of a royal palace—thin, ribs visible, wearing torn clothes, barely able to stand. His eyes were filled with longing. After some time, the king called him inside and asked, “Tell me, what do you want?” The beggar replied, “If you cannot understand what I need simply by looking at me, then what is the use of asking? My condition—*this* is my prayer. Look at me carefully. What more can I say in words?”
Ramdas said, “From that day, I stopped asking in prayer. I stand at God’s doorway. He dwells within; He knows my mind. What need is there for speech? If my *state* cannot express my prayer, how can words express it? When the heart speaks, words become unnecessary.”
The Essence of Real Prayer
The true essence of prayer is:
- the feeling within the heart,
- the unshakeable faith inside,
- the silent offering of one’s inner state.
When these are present, there is no ‘asking’ left to do. In prayer, just being is enough. The body will perform its duties, but silent prayer holds immeasurable power.
With this faith, I offer my heartfelt prayer at the feet of the all-pervading Sadguru—may He always be blessed with perfect health and strength.
