Atmonnati Sadhana – Part 2

9. Ego — the Obstacle to Inner Growth

“O Guru, my ego never leaves me; it harms me at every step.” Atmonnati Sadhana calls ego a destroyer. It makes a person believe he alone is the doer and controller. Because of ego, our speech, posture and behaviour become distorted. Yet in this vast world many live in filth and poverty, some uncertain of their next meal, some under trees or on roadsides drinking polluted water. Who protects them? Who sustains the innumerable beings across 8.4 million species? Only the Divine Cosmic Law.

Intellect can understand this, but ego blocks that understanding. Atmonnati Sadhana awakens viveka—clear, discriminative wisdom. With viveka the intellect becomes steady at the Divine feet, the mind becomes peaceful and ego dissolves. Samarth Ramdas Swami called ego the root of grief. It destroys viveka, which destroys right thinking and our ability to appreciate goodness. Sadguru Narendranath Maharaj warns: associating with egoistic people makes life worthless. This sadhana prevents such downfall.

10. Birth, Death, and the Journey Between

Everyone who is born will die, and between these two points lies the journey of life—and only we can shape it. Atmonnati Sadhana teaches how to make birth meaningful, death peaceful and life joyful. A central instruction is: “Spend your lifetime in noble actions.” Not “I try when possible,” but *consistent* practice.

Good actions bring inner growth and a better next birth; harmful actions bring suffering now and later. To be dear to God, belief is not enough. One must be useful to others, enjoy doing good, cultivate noble conduct and maintain purity of mind and intention. Then Divine grace unfolds naturally.

11. The Endless Trap of Desire

Desire and illusion grow endlessly; even heavenly pleasures cannot satisfy the mind.” We seek happiness through possessions and pleasures, but desire has no end. Material joy follows a strict rule: “The moment happiness begins is the moment it begins to end.” The pleasure fades; desire grows. Saint Dnyaneshwar called desire a black serpent because it swallows the mind slowly.

The antidote is viveka. When Krishna awakened Arjuna’s wisdom, Arjuna declared, “My delusion is destroyed.” Atmonnati Sadhana, through Sadguru Narendranath Maharaj, awakens this same wisdom and frees the seeker from endless desire and attachment.

12. True Knowledge Comes Only from the Sadguru

Guru, you gave us knowledge of the universe; you removed the darkness of ignorance.” God created the universe, but did not retain the authority to give *self-knowledge*. This supreme power lies only with the Sadguru Principle. Samarth Ramdas said: “Self-knowledge is to see oneself clearly,” and Dnyaneshwar confirmed the Guru alone gives this.

Self-knowledge fulfils life, removes sorrow and grants peace. Four signs of spiritual maturity are:

Those who live these qualities receive the Guru’s grace and knowledge.

13. “Who am I? Why am I born?”

These fundamental questions require deep understanding of cosmic creation and the origin of life. A young monk once approached the radiant sage Govindapada on the Narmada’s banks. When asked about his identity, the boy replied: “I am not earth, water, fire, air or space. I am not the senses or their qualities. I am the pure, supreme Shiva.” He became Adi Shankaracharya, who revived India’s spiritual foundation. Saint Das Ganu rendered this teaching beautifully: “I am not the elements; I am beyond all qualities; O Master, grant me the experience of Truth.” Atmonnati Sadhana invites seekers to approach these questions through Sadguru’s grace.

14. The Human is Helpless Without Divine Guidance

Human beings cannot grasp the vastness of creation; nothing is in their hands.” When our feet touch the earth at birth, the earth element awakens ego. We claim everything as “mine” and believe “I am the doer,” though the universe functions only by Divine Will. Samarth Ramdas teaches: “If you say ‘I am the doer,’ you suffer; if you say ‘God is the doer,’ you gain joy and success.”

Humans are born to elevate the soul. Ego destroys this purpose. Atmonnati Sadhana reveals how tiny humans are within the cosmos. This humility destroys ego and opens the path to peace.

15. Creation of the Universe and the Ages (Yugas)

Lord Vishnu instructed Brahma to create the universe. Brahma performed 12,000 years of austerity, then created the four Yugas:

Understanding the Yugas helps seekers grasp the divine intention behind Atmonnati Sadhana.
