A human being is born into this world in a constant search for happiness, yet often, all that finds his hands is sorrow. What is the reason for this? The reason is our 'Karma.' In today’s discourse, a vital truth was shared—just as a Chartered Accountant maintains a meticulous ledger of finances, Nature maintains a meticulous ledger of our actions. What we suffer today is simply the fruit of our own past errors. But then, is there no escape?
1. The Sadguru: The Healer of Destiny Just as a sick man seeks a physician, a soul bound by the chains of Karma must seek a Sadguru. Maharaj says that your Sadguru has the power to “rectify” your Karma. Even if your destiny (Prarabdha) is heavy and difficult, the blessing of the Sadguru reduces the sharpness of that pain. If a person is destined to undergo a major surgery, the Guru's grace can reduce that event to the mere prick of a needle. But for this to happen, one must have 'Faith.'
2. Abandoning Doubt etc: Abandoning Doubt Embracing Trust In the present age, man’s intellect has become very sharp. He subjects everything to the test of logic. Take the example of Narendranath Maharaj himself—initially, he believed that “God and Religion” were hoaxes and that saints were merely out to deceive people. This is a common flaw of the egoistic intellect. However, when his Guru, Shri Venkatnath Maharaj, asked just one sentence, “Child, why are you so late?”—that single sentence transformed his entire life. Faith begins where the intellect ends. It feels difficult to trust a Sadguru because we consider ourselves very wise. But until we go to Him as a “fool,” empty of our pride, we cannot taste His true love.
3. Guru Charitra: A Science of the Spirit The 'Shri Guru Charitra' is not just a collection of stories; it is a text of 'Spiritual Science.' It contains the answers to how this universe was created, how the soul got trapped, and how it can be liberated. The dialogue between the seeker (Namdharaka) and the Master (Siddha) is actually the dialogue between our doubting minds and the clarity provided by the Sadguru. To understand this text, do not read it with the intellect; read it while remaining in constant communion with the Guru.
4. The Eternal Lineage: The lineage starting from Lord Dattatreya—passing through Machindranath, Gorakshanath, Madhavnath, and now Narendranath Maharaj—is not just a chain of individuals; it is the flow of a single Divine Power. Whoever the Guru may be, He is ultimately a manifestation of Lord Dattatreya Himself. Finding a Sadguru is a sign of immense merit earned over many lifetimes. Once He holds your hand, there is no longer any reason to worry.
5. The Message for Today: There is no fortune greater than the service of the Sadguru. It matters less how many beads you turn in prayer; what matters is how long you remain in “Anusandhan” (constant awareness of His presence). Let go of doubt and say, “Whatever happens, happens by His will and is for my ultimate good.” This surrender alone will transform a mere man (Nara) into the Divine (Narayana).
Do not lose the connection; stay in the Name. All happiness resides there.
